Melissa Harlow, Founder of Volunteer Voice Over is an experienced voice over talent and voice over mentor on one of the largest freelance platforms.
Melissa spent many years working and volunteering in nonprofit organizations like the American Red Cross Blood Services and organizations that helped women, children, families, communities, schools and the fragile elderly.
Melissa states, ‘Volunteering has always been an important value in my family. So, of course, once my voice talent skills were perfected and ready, I tried contacting Nonprofit organizations to volunteer my voice but there were only a handful of opportunities out there. I realized we need a simple and safe platform that offers Rising Voice Talents a way to give back by fostering a sense of community and personal growth, while uncovering real voice over opportunities that help their favorite charitable organizations.’
The voice talent community is made up of generous people but many start voice over as a second career. They have amazing experiences in both their work and personal lives and understand the value of volunteering and giving back.
Most Nonprofit organizations depend on volunteers, so it’s a perfect way to collaborate with Rising Voice Talents who want to practice their craft and build valuable industry relationships.
Melissa Harlow spent most of her professional career in Nonprofit organizations, she understands the value of collaborating with many kinds of talent. It’s also important for organizations to trust those who want to help. The Volunteer Voice Over platform will pair Rising Voice Talent members with vetted Nonprofit organizations that have a specific voice over project and are ready to work with a Rising Voice Talent. The ‘people pairing’ will be so much fun and exciting to watch! After all, it’s people who make the difference, especially those who are altruistic.
Creating this platform required a lot of tech skills for Melissa and her husband, not to mention the tech part of being a voice actor. No longer are the days when you just called yourself a voice actor. In order to be taken seriously, you almost need to be a one-stop shop and need to have at least an elementary understanding of sound engineering, editing, production, software, equipment and production. And that’s just the beginning.
