Gary S. Michel is a public company director and former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of JELD-WEN Holding, Inc. (NYSE: JELD), a global manufacturer of windows and doors and associated building products with $4.8 billion in revenue and operations across North America, Europe, and Australasia.
Gary S. Michel brings nearly four decades of leadership experience across industrial, building products, and consumer-oriented businesses, with deep expertise in strategy, operational transformation, and global market execution. As CEO of JELD-WEN, he led a multi-year turnaround, delivering consistent financial performance, strengthening governance, and repositioning the company for long-term growth in a cyclical housing market.
Previously, Gary S. Michel served as President and CEO of Honeywell Home and Building Technologies, a $10 billion global business, where he led strategic transformation initiatives and the successful separation of the Resideo business. Earlier in his career, he held senior leadership roles at Ingersoll Rand, including President of its Residential Solutions segment, overseeing global HVAC, security, and connected home solutions. He served as CEO of Club Car and multiple other global leadership roles.
Mr. Michel currently serves on the board of Global Industrial Company (NYSE: GIC), where he is a member of the Audit Committee and chair of the Compensation Committee. He previously served on the board of Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, where he served on Audit and Nominating and Governance Committees and contributed to the company’s successful sale to Goodyear and participated in CEO succession and governance oversight.
He also serves on several private and advisory boards and is an active contributor to leadership development and corporate governance discussions. Mr. Michel is a member of the National Association of Corporate Directors and the author of Decomplify: How Simplicity Drives Stability, Innovation, and Transformation and The Founder’s Mindset: How to Lead with Clarity and Purpose in any Organization.
Gary holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Tech and an MBA from the University of Phoenix.
