Listen to John’s Podcast!

Dr. John La Puma is a physician, author, and systems thinker working at the intersection of human biology and modern performance. A board-certified internist and two-time New York Times bestselling author, he is also a professionally trained chef and regenerative farmer. He pioneered Culinary Medicine, co-teaching the first course in a U.S. medical school—an approach now integrated into the majority of medical schools nationwide and globally.

Today, Dr. La Puma is advancing the next phase of health innovation: EcoMedicine, a data-driven framework that applies environmental inputs—especially time outdoors—as measurable, prescribable interventions for human performance and recovery. After analyzing more than 2,000 clinical studies, he developed and taught one the first skills-based nature-as medicine CME programs for physicians, accredited by UCLA in 2025 and delivered entirely in an outdoor setting.

His work reframes burnout, cognitive fatigue, and chronic disease as consequences of a fundamental mismatch between human biology and always-on, indoor, digitally saturated environments. Through his “Outdoor Rx” framework and “7% Solution,” he outlines how small, structured doses of outdoor exposure—just 2–5 hours per week—can restore circadian rhythm, improve immune function, and enhance cognitive resilience.

Dr. La Puma has hosted over 120 episodes of Lifetime TV’s Health Corner as ChefMD and has been featured by Fast Company, Healthline, PBS, The Washington Post, and The Wall Street Journal. His new book, Indoor Epidemic (March 2026), presents a practical model for reversing the physiological costs of modern indoor life and building scalable strategies for healthier, higher-performing individuals and organizations.
