Mitchell Demeter is a recognized leader and early innovator in the global cryptocurrency and blockchain industry. In 2013, he co-founded the world’s first Bitcoin ATM, transforming access to digital currencies and accelerating Bitcoin’s mainstream adoption. He subsequently launched Cointrader Exchange, one of Canada’s first cryptocurrency trading platforms, guiding it to a successful acquisition in 2015.
Demeter then served as President of Netcoins, overseeing its expansion into a leading regulated Canadian crypto exchange. Under his leadership, Netcoins, eventually acquired by BIGG Digital Assets (CSE: BIGG), achieved significant growth and neared a $1 billion valuation. Currently, Mitchell Demeter is CEO of SonicStrategy (formerly Spetz Inc., CSE: SPTZ / OTC: DBKSF), a public company that acts as a “crypto treasury” for the Sonic blockchain by accumulating Sonic ($S) tokens, running validator infrastructure and participating in DeFi, giving investors streamlined access to blockchain growth.
He is also a Director at Bitcoin Well Inc. (TSX: BTCW), which specializes in non-custodial crypto access and ATM networks across Canada. Beyond crypto, Demeter is a serial entrepreneur with successful ventures in technology and consumer markets, known for building innovative businesses and executing effective exits.
In 2020, Mitchell Demeter was recognized in Business in Vancouver’s “Forty Under 40” for his significant contributions to the industry. His career is marked by technical insight, operational leadership, and a vision that bridges traditional finance with decentralized systems, helping to build trust in digital assets and shape the future of fintech.
