Pavel Hübner Podcast Transcript
Pavel Hübner joins host Brian Thomas on The Digital Executive Podcast.
Welcome to Coruzant Technologies, Home of The Digital Executive Podcast.
Brian Thomas: Welcome to The Digital Executive. Today’s guest is Pavel Hübner. Pavel Hübner has more than 20 years of experience in electronics development, embedded software, project management, and product launch into production. He coordinated the market introduction of a wide range of successful products and worked as the head of applied development in Jablatron Group.
Where he gained extensive experience with product definition and optimization for manufacturability. Pavel spent part of his life in Shenzhen, China, the heart of the global electronics business. In 2016, Pavel co-founded the company HARDWARIO with the goal of transforming the industrial IoT space thanks to LPWAN technologies and non-invasive deployments.
His company HARDWARIO counts 28 people today, mostly electronics, embedded and software engineers has been listed in the Prague Stock Exchange since 2022.
Well, good afternoon, Pavel. Welcome to the show!
Pavel Hübner: Hey, Brian. Thank you for having me. I’m really excited to be here. Hello to everyone. And a special shout out to my friends, Tomáš Svoboda, who has been on your show before and helped connect these dots to make this session happen. Thank you.
Brian Thomas: You’re welcome. Absolutely. I appreciate that. I know there’s a lot of connections between the Czech Republic, the United States, and here in Kansas City. Appreciate the love, the shout out.
And Pavel, let’s jump into your first question here. Talk a little bit about, with over 20 years of experience in electronics development and embedded software, what first sparked your interest in this field, and how has your journey led to you to co found Hardwario?
Pavel Hübner: So, my journey in electronics started when I was about eight, back then, my father worked for a local electronics engineering company and my uncle repaired televisions for people in the village and its romantic era. So, at some point at a very young age, I felt surrounded by this magical world of electronics.
The year was about 1994, and personal computers had just about started to become more widely adopted in the Czech Republic. And very soon, I became fascinated by the introduction of electronics and computers. And apparently this enthusiasm has persisted in me. That’s why I love Internet of Things. And to a certain extent, that’s why I run, I run a hardware company.
Also, I want to say that I started this business with my friend Alan in 2016, as a spinoff from the company where we both of us had been working. Today, the core product of Hardware. io is quite different from where we started the journey, but the foundation for connecting things hasn’t changed.
Brian Thomas: Thank you. Appreciate the backstory, Pavel. I really do. I love your enthusiasm. And obviously your father was a big part of you, that direction or decision you made in your life, one as working in the electronic space, but also as an entrepreneur. And I think that’s really amazing. Love the story. And Pavel, our Wario focuses on LPWAN technologies and non-invasive deployments.
Can you explain the significance of LPWAN in the industrial IoT landscape and how it differentiates your products from others in the market?
Pavel Hübner: Yes, absolutely. So LPWAN, or Low Power Wide Area Network, plays an essential role in industrial IoT, okay? The related technologies enable long range communication with minimal power consumption, and that is crucial for remote devices operating in hard-to-reach locations without frequent maintenance.
And in hard video, we focus on LP1 technologies like LoRaWAN and Cellular IoT specifically Narrowband IoT and LTE M. And these technologies provide global coverage and scalability which make them ideal for urban or industrial settings where there is already existing cellular infrastructure.
What sets us apart is our non-invasive deployments. Unlike solutions that require very costly retrofitting, Our products integrate very seamlessly with existing systems, reducing deployment costs and speeding the digitization process. So, this combination of LPWAN and ESOL deployment gives us a very strong market advantage.
Brian Thomas: Thank you. And I appreciate you delving into that a little bit more on and sharing with our audience what LPWAN is and the benefits of that. And I know that you’re really focused on bringing a better product to market. So, I appreciate the share. And Pavel, Heart Wario has grown to a team of 28, primarily engineers.
How do you foster innovation and collaboration within your team? And what leadership principles do you consider most important in driving your company’s success?
Pavel Hübner: Sure. So, at Hardwario, overall, I would say innovation comes from very open communication. Our engineering team is encouraged to experiment and explore new ideas.
We typically work in small cross functional teams and tackle challenges from different perspectives, and that helps us to find creative solutions. And as a leader, I focus on fostering the knowledge and encouraging innovation. Because we make sure the team is always learning new technologies. This is very important to me and improving their skills by promoting this sort of problem solving and curiosity.
We are really helping to keep company, let’s say, ahead. So, we value every idea, and these are subs to maintain our innovation and approaches. And I will give you an example. We were the first in our country to implement and deploy applications with the Zephyr operating system. By the way, Zephyr RTOS is a very, very essential part of hardware business today.
So that’s how we foster this innovation.
Brian Thomas: Thank you. I appreciate that. And I can tell that you’re very collaborative with your team as well. And I know that there’s no challenge that you can’t solve with your team, which is an amazing. And I love the fact that you can bring some of that new cutting-edge technology to your country.
I think that’s amazing. I really do. And Pavel, last question of the day here is we look ahead, what trends do you foresee shaping the future of industrial IOT and how is Hardwario positioning itself to lead in this evolving industry?
Pavel Hübner: Several trends are shaping the future of industrial IoT, I would say.
The first one I see is edge computing is becoming more critical as connected devices grow. And this processing data locally reduces latency, of course, and improves real time decision making. And we are already integrating edge computing into our products. Also, what I consider crucial is sustainability.
So, industries want to lower energy usage, and our focus on LPWAN actually aligns with this need by offering low power, long distance solutions. And the third I would mention is interoperability. So, businesses want systems that easily integrate with their existing setups and hardware designs, model products that can scale without compatibility issues.
And this improves our position in this industrial IoT landscape.
Brian Thomas: Thank you. And it goes back to having a great team of innovators, right? You’re problem solvers, you’re solution providers. And I really like the fact that you want to stay ahead and truly bring groundbreaking solutions to your community and, and to your country and to the world.
So, I really do appreciate that. And Pavel, it was such a pleasure having you on today, and I look forward to speaking with you real soon.
Pavel Hübner: Oh, yes. Thank you so much, Brian, for having me on the show. It’s been a great opportunity to share hardware’s journey, and I’m excited about what the future holds for Industrial IoT.
Thank you. Bye!
Brian Thomas: Bye for now.
