Matthew Kael Swanson has spent more than 15 years building and deploying artificial intelligence systems in real-world commercial environments. His work in AI began at Carnegie Mellon University’s Robotics Institute, where he helped develop self-driving technologies before moving into entrepreneurship.
He went on to found SpeakerText, a Google Ventures–backed AI company that pioneered crowdsourced approaches to scaling enterprise workforces. SpeakerText was acquired by CloudFactory in 2012. In 2016 he founded AugmentCXM, which developed some of the earliest large language model–based tools designed specifically for enterprise contact centers. The company was acquired by Sutherland Global in 2022.
Today Swanson leads StaffAI which provides businesses with AI employees that operate as 1099 sales contractors.
Underlying his work is a philosophy centered on human flow. He believes that when technology removes tasks and unnecessary friction, people can enter a state of deep creative focus where individuals and teams perform at extraordinary levels. Poorly designed technology, however, can disrupt flow by introducing distractions, cognitive overload, and unnatural workflows.
His work focuses on designing AI systems that overcome these challenges and create environments where employees operate at their highest level, leading to improved customer experiences and ultimately sustainable business value.
