Nic Riemer is a co-founder of The Invigilator, an education technology platform established in 2020 to make assessment more accessible, secure, and inclusive. The platform enables students to complete high-stakes assessments remotely through an all-in-one application, reducing the cost, travel and logistical barriers traditionally associated with in-person exams. By allowing learners to sit assessments from home or work, The Invigilator supports wider participation in formal education.
The Invigilator is currently used by more than 100 academic institutions and has achieved significant national reach in South Africa. The application was the most downloaded education app across all major app stores in 2022, 2023 and 2024, and today supports approximately 850,000 active users. Its adoption reflects growing demand for flexible and scalable assessment models that maintain trust and integrity.
Nic has been recognized for his leadership and contribution to education and professional innovation. He was named the South African Chartered Accountants Top 35 Under 35 overall winner and was also included in the Mail & Guardian’s Top 200 Young South Africans, highlighting his impact at the intersection of technology, access, and opportunity.
